This excerpt Pretty much sums it up   (courtesy of thissongissick.com)

"Pretty Lights just let loose a full album stream of his newest highly anticipated album ‘A Color Map of the Sun’ that is set to release July 2nd. There is nothing quite like Pretty Lights. It is almost surreal to finally be able to hear the whole thing. Derrick actually traveled across the country recording musicians and turned those samples to vinyls and then sampled his own personal vinyl collection. He is releasing all the vinyl he samples as a second disc apart of the release. Listen to it in it’s entirety below. Full review coming Monday. You can also pre-order the double disc vinyl and CD version of the album though his website hereMake sure to come back on July 2nd when this masterpiece is finally released. Enjoy."

Comin' Home

Comin' Home

Michael Mattice isn't a normal individual, in fact he's an alien.  He has to be, because people like him just aren't from this world. They come from a different place, a better place. They come from a place where Love is more than a word, and where life means more than a cycle. I have been honored to meet a few aliens in my day, but none have had the impact on me like Michael Mattice.

Who Is Michael Mattice?

First off, he is the best kind of friend you would ever want to have in life. In fact if you ever meet a friend that is half as genuine or as humble as Mike you better hold on to them. Because they will walk  hand in hand with you through the journey of life. Reminding you of the beauty that has been granted with every breath.
Those who know Michael best, know that he is a he's a bit different (alien) but never in a bad way.
Michael is the best possible kind of different that you could be. Hes just the kind of different this world needs!

Michael began his musical studies at age 8 on flute and piano with Asst. Prof. Lynn Hertel of George Washington University. During this period he played a well-received invitational solo performance at the National Flute Convention. Michael’s scholastic music experiences included electric and upright bass performances in jazz and classical symphony orchestras.  His high school symphony orchestra won gold medals and superior awards each year. Michael also earned competitive bass positions in District Symphony Orchestras and for three years was the principal bassist in the Arlington Youth Symphony Orchestra. Michael was one of a limited number of applicants across the country invited to audition for the National Symphony Orchestra’s Youth Program.

Outside of school, Michael played in well-known local indie rock bands playing all original music and had radio and television appearances. He was also chosen to play at a National Guitar Workshop clinic with Larry "Mr. ES-335" Carlton (Steely Dan, session guitarist).

Michael was competitively accepted to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, from which he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Professional Music comprised of Jazz Composition and Music Business. While at Berklee, Michael played with many great musicians. He played in local groups and with these groups or as a solo artist obtained residencies at various Boston area venues. Soon after graduation Michael had the pleasure and honor of touring with Jamaica's Aria Morgan as the band’s guitarist to promote her album, "Full Time Love." In his last months at Berklee Michael co-founded the progressive metal band Yantra, who released their debut album, “Beauty and Balance,” and continues to actively perform.

Beginning in late March 2013, Michael began his solo career as an acoustic guitarist, singer, and songwriter. His music is a fresh blend of folk, blues, indie, and country and his debut album, "Comin' Home", will be digitally and physically  released on June 25, 2013. For Michael's performance schedule, "Comin' Home" pre-sale information, and latest updates, please visit his FB artist page - www.Facebook.com/MatticeMusic.

In addition to his solo career, Michael continues to collaborate internationally as a professional session guitarist both online and in person. To contact him for collaborations and session playing please send all inquiries to MatticeMusic@gmail.com

 The Album

This album is damn good! The first time I heard it live, I almost started tearing up, because it speaks to me. Its a very real album, you can relate to his words no matter who you are or what you listen to. It's very clear that this album was written from his heart which is perfect for Mike,  because his heart is what people love most about him.
 Genre:  Alternative/Indie/Folk
There is a good bit of finger pickin' in all the songs, which amazes me because his voice is soothing as hell but his fingers are running up and down the fret board a mile a minute. The Album has nine original songs, all written and produced by Michael. I could write about how amazing his songs are all day  but that won't do him any justice. Please go check it out for yourself. I guarantee you will not be sorry!
Description of his music in his words
"My music is simple and intimate. It makes me feel good when people get something from it that helps them. My writing comes from stories that are universal to the human experience. There are countless musicians who I thank and respect for inspiring and teaching me. The way to show my thanks to all of them, is to play my music with the intent of helping and sharing with others, just as their music has helped me."
- Michael Mattice

Album Title

Comin' Home is a perfect Album title, you will see this when you listen to it.  But for me it represents the precise impact Mike has on me as well as a lot of his friends. When hes around were all Comin' Home within our selves. Michael has that impact on people. No matter what the situation you can always count on him to bring you back to peace within yourself.  He is a calming force in a very hectic world. A force this world could use a lot more of!

Thank you Mike!
I speak for so many when I say that I am so proud of you. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to watch you blossom into the Man /Musician /Singer /Songwriter you've become. I also speak for many when I say Thank you my dear friend for always being you. You bring a light into every bodies lives. A light that even in the darkest of shadows can not be dimmed for your love always shines through.

Pretty Lights The Making of: A Color Map of the Sun

A Color Map of the Sun

Watch this awesome documentary that follows Derrick Smith aka Pretty Lights as he walks us through the process of creating his new album A Color Map of the Sun. I knew of Pretty Lights for a while but did not actually get a chance to see him until Bonnaroo 2013. I immediately became hooked to his new Electro-HipHop-Soul sound that he's bringing to light. He reminds me of Kill Paris a little but he's way more in to the actual creation of sounds by using instruments and musicians rather than producing all his sounds electronically. The mixes he does are jaw dropping I encourage you all to at least check it out and see what I'm talking about. This dude is just getting started, I'm just glad I found the music and story behind it. Enjoy!

(thats his cat that travels everywhere with him)

WHO IS PRETTY LIGHTS: (Wiki)
Smith wrote and produced hip hop music while attending high school in Fort Collins, Colorado. He then attended University of Colorado at Boulder, but dropped out during his freshman year to focus on his music instead. In 2007 and 2008, Smith began playing late nights for large acts such as STS9, The Disco Biscuits & Widespread Panic. In the summer of 2009, under the moniker Pretty Lights, Smith played at several major American music festivals, such as Bonnaroo, Rothbury, the Electric Daisy Carnival, Wakarusa, Camp Bisco, and the 10KLF. The following autumn, he went on a multi-city tour of the United States.

In 2010, Pretty Lights played at the 2010 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, the 2010 Marchone Music Productions Illumination Show in Nashville, the 2010 Evolve Festival in Nova Scotia, Movement 2010 (the Detroit Electronic Music Festival), the 2010 Starscape Festival, Camp Bisco 9, Nocturnal Festival at Apache Pass, Texas, the 2010 Electric Zoo at Randall's Island in New York City, New York, the North Coast Music Festival in Chicago, Illinois, and the Outsidelands Festival in San Francisco, California. More recently, they headlined the Snow Ball in Avon Colorado along with Bassnectar and the Flaming Lips. In June 2011 Pretty Lights had a late-night set at Bonnaroo, where he debuted the hit song "I know the Truth." Smith also debuted his state of the art light show in early 2011 involving LED towers made to look like a cityscape. Most recently in July 2011, he headlined at the Electric Forest in Rothbury, Michigan, at Camp Bisco's 10th anniversary in Mariaville, NY, and at All Good 2011 in Masontown, WV. At All Good 2011 Pretty Lights released what Smith described onstage as a special "one in a lifetime" track, a remix of John Denver's "Take me Home Country Roads".

Smith toured with drummer Cory Eberhard from August 2007 to June 2011. In 2010, Smith replaced Eberhard with Adam Deitch as drummer, debuting at Red Rocks on August 7, 2010.Smith stopped touring with a live drummer in 2011.

On January 25, 2011, Smith released two albums on his newly formed record label, Pretty Lights Music. The record label offers free downloads for any of Pretty Lights' albums plus Michal Menert, Paper Diamond and Break Science, Gramatik, Paul Basic, Eliot Lipp, SuperVision; current and past artists under his PLM record label. A donation option is available. Pretty Lights continues to distribute music for free, and frequently appears at festivals across the world.

Pretty Lights is set to release a new full-length album titled A Color Map of the Sun on July 2, 2013. This will be the first sample-free Pretty Lights album. Smith conducted and composed all music for the record himself and with musicians in studios in Brooklyn, New Orleans and Denver. He then pressed those recording to vinyl to create his own catolog of music to sample from. The album will be released at no cost via prettylightsmusic.com as well as on vinyl, CD and on iTunes

Description of his music:
Smith's music relies heavily on digital sampling and crosses many genres, forming a combination of "glitchy hip-hop beats, buzzing synth lines, and vintage funk and soul samples."

BONNAROO 2013 Top Three

MY TOP THREE PERFORMANCES

Warm up Video ( because you always forget things for Bonnaroo)

"Yall got any drugs?"

Thankfully my experience was the exact opposite of this video. Our car lucked out and got a really great security guy who was more interested in weather we had glass or an extra person hiding in our car rather than drugs or explosives. At one point i really did think we were going to be search by the Sheriffs because we were directed to the toll almost right next to them. Luckily the whole process took about 30 seconds and my first interaction with a security guard was hilarious and fun. I knew right then that the weekend was going to be Epic!

TOP THREE PERFORMANCES

1. Sir Paul McCartney
First of all he did his sound check on Thursday night, just in time for us to see it here is a video of his Improvised Bonnaroo Song.

The show literally left our whole group speechless, I'm pretty sure we all cried together at some point. I know When he sang "Yesterday" my heart skipped 10 beats, Helter Skelter lit our a fire up under our asses, Hey Jude Properly united all 80,000+ as a family on the farm. But one moment I will always remember was embracing my best friend and just singing at the top of our lungs to"Carry That Weight" we sang till our voices were gone and then we kept singing some more, our voices cracked uncontrollably but we didn't give a shit we did like the rest and lived in that moment.

Helter Skelter (not my footage)

Hey Jude-I still get chills at 3:50 (not my footage)

Carry that Weight (not my footage)

2. Pretty Lights
Idk if it was my state of mind, the vibes around me, or if Derrick Smith aka Pretty Lights is really that amazing. Either way I had the best time with Pretty Lights. He played a 4 hour set, and we partied until the sun came up, it was magical to see so many people at the crack of dawn partying like it was midnight and the show just started. Simply amazing!

Pink Floyd Time Remix

I will never miss a chance to see Pretty Lights again after this show. That's how much I liked this set. His music is just perfect not to hard core EDM. Its got a real groove to it, almost like he knows just how to make you want to dance. Non stop movement with this dude, Its just what I was looking for.

3. Kendrick Lamar
One of my best friends isn't the biggest fan of Hip Hop/ Rap but after this show he said Kendrick Lamar was his new favorite rapper. The energy Kendrick brings to the stage is electrifying, although he only got an hour set it was so damn good. I was a little worried about seeing Kendrick Because he was performing on Sunday and i didn't think i would have enough energy ro bring it right, but damn he brought the energy for me i just picked up on it and so did everyone else. I'm so grateful I got to see him at a pretty early stage in his career, His wordplay capabilities are sick and if his talent elevates the way I think it can he will definitely be one of the best.

"Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe"

This whole event was amazing. These were just my top Three. Thanks you Bonnaroo for surpassing my every expectation. I'm officially addicted and will certainly be on the farm next summer with more friends and even better times. Love you Roo !!!!

HOLY SHIP!!!!

Knock Knock

Whose there?

A Ship

ship who ?

HOLY SHIP!

What happens when you combine a bunch of the top EDM artists with a cruise ship and two Private islands?
I don't know either that's why I need to make this happen

First of all i have to tell you that HOLY SHIP 2014 is already sold out. That alone has my attention, I have joined the waiting list in case spots open for 2014 (link for waiting list at the bottom of this paragraph). But if that doesn't work 2015 will have to be the year. But hey that's no problem planning ahead is a thing of beauty if you know what your doing. I just hope the EDM scene doesn't get too over hyped by that point (It's already "the Hype"). Anyway here is what to look forward to 2014 and a glimpse at 2015.

The ship:

MSC DIVINA
This ship has everything from an Infinity pool, to a Broadway size theatre. It also has 14 different cabin styles depending on how much of a baller you are.
What to Expect

ICE CREAM SANDWEEEEECHES

all credit for this post goes directly to Cream cycle, I simply am trying to help spread the word big bird.

About
"The idea for a fleet of ice cream bicycles in DC came from the streets of chef Carlos Delgado's native country - Peru. "There's a large company in Lima with all these yellow bikes, and they sell different kinds of ice cream. I wanted to take the same concept and build it here, just with gourmet ice cream sandwiches."
Carlos spent time at Bryan Voltaggio's Frederick institution Volt before taking the helm at Smith Commons on H Street in Northeast Washington DC, where he was nominated for the Washington City Paper's Best Chef in Washington DC alongside Jose Andres and Mike Isabella. He is currently the Executive Chef of Longboard Hospitality, overseeing the Caucus Room and Boveda restaurants at the Westin in Foggy Bottom. " (Cream Cycle) CLICK ME
